Running Reindeer Ranch is KUAC’s Featured Sponsor for August
A visit to Running Reindeer Ranch is certainly a fun outing, but it’s also much more. Visitors learn about natural history and gain an understanding about the role of reindeer in the Arctic.
The Fairbanks operation has been written about in Conde’ Nast Traveler, Smithsonian and the Washington Post, along with a report from NPR and being named one of the top five things to do in Alaska by travel host Samantha Brown.
Doug Toelle and Jane Atkinson operate the family business in the woods near Fairbanks, offering guided immersive walks with reindeer through a magical birch forest. They have been raising reindeer since 2007 and giving tours since 2010.
They also offer yoga classes, weddings and accommodations and work with local producers to create soap and face cream from reindeer milk and yarn from the animals’ fur.
“We want to be a valuable, informative resource for the community and create a good experience for residents and visitors,” Jane said.
The business supports KUAC because Jane and Doug appreciate the in-depth news and information. “We like the local aspect KUAC provides,” Jane said. “We have a deep history with KUAC and are long-time supporters.”
