Buetow Dental Clinic is an Ardent Supporter of KUAC
A passion for dog-mushing brought Dr. Eric Buetow to North Pole in 1981, where, conveniently enough, there was a dental office that put him to work, helping him pay for his sled dog habit that would lead to three Iditarods and a Yukon Quest.
Dr. Buetow’s public radio history goes back to his dental school days, listening to Minnesota Public Radio where he enjoyed a daily morning show hosted by a guy named Garrison Keillor. It then continued with KBRW in Barrow, where he lived for two years. Moving to the Interior then of course meant establishing the wonderful relationship with KUAC that continues to this day.
Working Saturdays in the early years, he became a big fan of Scott Simon, thus his continuing sponsorship of Saturday Morning Edition. His well-trained staff is ready at 4 p.m. to tune in to All Things Considered loud enough to overcome some drill and suction noise.
Dr. Buetow and his wife, Katie Madden, run their business together. When not working, they spend their time on cross-country ski trails, on their boat on Prince William Sound or in the garden or sewing room, Katie being an avid quilter with examples of her work on display in the clinic. Over the years, they’ve enjoyed supporting a wide array of local sporting and civic endeavors.
“We live a richer and more-informed life with public radio,” he said.
