Turning Point Counseling Services is KUAC’s November Corporate Sponsor
Turning Point Counseling Services has been guiding people through trauma, the disease of addiction and mental illness since 2009. Founded by Gunnar Ebbesson and Joseph Nowell, the clinic has grown to seven licensed counselors and four more counselors working toward their licensure to fulfill the mission of treating those suffering from trauma, mental illness and/or addiction.
Turning Point tries to see patients as soon as they realize they need help and offers outpatient recovery assistance in Fairbanks so that people don’t have to leave their community for treatment. The company also serves active duty military and their family as well as retired veterans.
The mission of Turning Point is to provide high quality treatment to those suffering from mental illness and/or addiction. They believe that a person is not the sum or his or her problems and that recovery is possible for everyone; that the diseases of mental illness and addiction impact the whole family; and that a person’s recovery from these illnesses improves the quality of life for his or her entire family and everyone they interact with socially and occupationally. Turning Point Counseling Services provides a community resource that helps to facilitate quality of life improvements for community members and families. Using an individualized approach that honors one’s strengths and spirit, they provide a range of therapy and education experiences that helps move clients toward wellness.
Their substance abuse intensive outpatient program is a 12-week treatment option involving group and individual therapy, meditation, yoga and then integration back into the community and family to increase likelihood of sustained recovery.
Turning Point’s leadership team, which includes Gunnar Ebbesson, Joseph Nowell and Nick Kraska, are involved in an abundance of community outreach and serve on local boards such as the Opioid Task Force, The Re-Entry Coalition, Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, as well as others at the state level. They support KUAC because it reaches a unique population that other media stations do not.
