KUAC’s August Featured Sponsor is OLLI
Where else can seasoned Fairbanksans take classes such as “Suffrage Songs: Cultural History of the 19th Amendment,” “Cryptocurrencies” or “Using Technology for Better Travel” than OLLI?
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, a membership program of UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning, provides learning opportunities for people over 50. Led by its membership, OLLI offers nearly 140 stimulating courses, along with lectures and special interest groups.
Members explore academic and general interest courses in an atmosphere that is intellectually stimulating, but without the stress of tests and grades. Members share the common bonds of intellectual curiosity and the experience of their generation. They are self-motivated learners, eager to share opinions, knowledge and expertise with humor and mutual respect.
Sarah Garland, OLLI’s program director, said, “OLLI supports KUAC because it’s good advertising for us. We think there’s a big overlap between the people who would enjoy OLLI courses and the people who enjoy public radio programming. OLLI courses appeal to curious, thoughtful people and cater to a wide range of interests, from art and exercise to science and literature. KUAC, too, offers a wide range of programming, with news, in-depth information, music and stories. I know that many of our current members value KUAC enough to donate individually, because I hear multiple OLLI member names in every fund drive break when donor names are read.”
OLLI’s fall registration is available online Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 9:30 a.m. and the Ice Cream Social is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at University Community Presbyterian Church, 3510 College Road. Fall classes begin Sept. 9. Visit uaf.edu/olli/ for more information.
