League of Women Voters of Tanana Valley is KUAC’s Featured Sponsor for April
For over 50 years, the League of Women Voters of Tanana Valley has championed citizenship education in Interior Alaska. The organization, which is part of the nonpartisan national and state LWV, works to empower voters and defend democracy by hosting educational workshops, meetings, webinars, and candidate forums. The League also supports voter registration opportunities at local events and naturalization ceremonies. The LWV tracks bills and resolutions at the local, state and national levels and provides updates as well as taking positions on issues affecting citizens’ rights and our democracy.
LWV in Fairbanks offers workshops to help people prepare to run in local elections and has generously sponsored airing the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly meetings on KUAC FM for years. Its members believe that everyone should be able to listen to the public meetings even if they can’t attend in person. “It’s the right thing to do,” LWV Tanana Valley President Shari George said.
“I can’t imagine a thriving democracy without public radio and public television that represent all sides of issues.”
KUAC thanks the 90 members of the League of Women Voters of Tanana Valley for supporting our efforts. To learn more, visit lwvalaska.org/fairbanks/.
