KUAC proudly thanks our Life-Saving Volunteers!

Tim CarrierKUAC celebrated the life-saving efforts contributed by our volunteers on Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation event. The festive atmosphere was sunny with lots of smiles as KUAC staff, and our volunteers, family and friends enjoyed build-your-own ice cream sundaes, music by Pantheon Steel Drum band, and Polaroid photos by Greer and Rachelle – as you can see in the wonderful digital photographs by Deb Lawton, Aaron Elterman, and Lisa Scerbak, shown in the album below.

Congratulations to Tim Carrier, the Spirit of KUAC award winner for 2012! Tim is a long-standing volunteer who answers the call of duty for virtually every event KUAC holds – and he often brings a whole platoon of volunteers with him from the 168th Alaska Air Guard Refueling Wing. He serves as a Member of the Community Advisory Council, a post he has held since 2008. He was nominated by Donna Oleson, who describes Tim’s QUIET volunteerism in this way: “Tim has volunteered in many different capacities. In 2011 Tim challenged all military folks to show their support for KUAC FM during the FM Fall Fundraiser which was met – and exceeded – in the final moments of last fall’s FM drive, making for an exciting finale. His encouragement to honor KUAC’s efforts to “bring the world to Alaska and Alaska to the world” is sincere and followed up with words and actions that bring those donors closer to the organization.”

The Spirit of KUAC Award is presented at this event to a volunteer in recognition of exceptional service to KUAC. Open nominations were accepted for 30 days and then forwarded to a selection committee of community members.

Previous Spirit of KUAC recipients:

  • 2004 – Leone Hatch
  • 2005 – Reverend Murray Richmond
  • 2006 – John “Alaska Jahn” Lysen
  • 2007 – Tim “T-Man” Sprout
  • 2008 – Lisa Sporleder
  • 2009 – Dave “Dr. Dave” Lacey (posthumously)
  • 2010 – Susie Hackett
  • 2011 – Ray Funk

Congratulations to all of the 2012 Spirit of KUAC nominees:

  • Dorrie Breese
  • Howard Dresser
  • Ellen Ganley
  • Steve Hormann
  • Rhonda Kitchens

Thank you to the Spirit of KUAC selection committee:

  • Theresa Bakker
  • Sue Sprinkle
  • Beth Kohnen
  • Pamm Hubbard
  • Andrew Quainton

KUAC would not be able to meet our mission of creating radio and television programming that is thought-provoking, trustworthy and even life-changing WITHOUT volunteers. Volunteers are LIFE SAVERS!
