Black Spruce Brewing Company is KUAC’s December Featured Sponsor
Black Spruce Brewing Company, which opened on winter solstice of 2018, brews and sells world-class ales and lagers for the people of Interior Alaska. BSBC offers four flagship beers, including the popular Aroma Dome IPA, while the rest of the eight taps constantly rotate between a variety of other styles. In spring 2020, BSBC began offering cider, as well. The majority of BSBC’s beers and cider are available both on tap to enjoy by-the-glass at its taproom, as well as canned to-go. Along with brewing great beers, Black Spruce Brewing Company frequently engages with and gives back to the community. The taproom hosts First Friday shows each month and offers a venue to local artists and has hosted other community-based events, including makers markets, voter information nights and group bike rides. Giving back to Fairbanks and investing in its community is a core tenet of BSBC.
Black Spruce Brewing Company is owned by Stephanie Haskins, Carey Fristoe and Jake Hovenden. Stephanie Haskins has worked throughout the sales and distribution side of the industry in Washington, Arizona and Alaska for the better part of the last decade and currently heads BSBC’s sales and marketing as well as its taproom. Carey Fristoe grew up in Fairbanks and earned a master’s degree in brewing and distilling from Hariot-Watt University in Edinburugh, Scotland. Carey brewed in Washington and Arizona before returning home to Alaska and serves as BSBC’s head brewer. Jake Hovenden grew up in Fairbanks, as well, and, after earning his MBA, joined Carey and Stephanie to open Black Spruce Brewing Company. Jake serves as BSBC’s head of business. Each of the owners has strong ties and deep connections to Fairbanks and is eager to continue to make Fairbanks a great place to live and work and to make and sell the best craft beer in Alaska.
Black Spruce Brewing Company is proud to support KUAC because the owners appreciate and enjoy the terrific educational and entertaining programs that KUAC FM provides to the community. “Whether it’s listening to an enlightening interview on Fresh Air, catching up on the latest news on Alaska News Nightly or enjoying the newest works of a musician on World Cafe or Afropop Worldwide, KUAC constantly provides our community with the best that radio has to offer.,” they said.
