Camp Denali is KUAC’s Featured Corporate Sponsor for May
Since 1952, a family-owned and operated lodge has been welcoming guests to Denali National Park. This “wide spot on the tundra with hospitality” is Camp Denali.
Situated in the heart of Denali National Park, Camp Denali and North Face Lodge specialize in natural history education, stewardship and hospitality. Throughout the summer, around 75 guests per day are treated to wholesome food from responsible sources, guided nature hikes and the privilege of waking up to a view of one of the most spectacular mountains on Earth.
Throughout the summer, the lodges host experts lecturing on bird migration, ethnobotany, writing, animals, Athabascan language, climate change, photography and more.
Jenna Hamm, an owner of Denali National Park Wilderness Centers, said she is proud of the business’s history, going back to Camp Denali founders Celia Hunter, Ginny Wood and Morton Wood. Their motto was, “In building Camp Denali, the land told us what we should be.”
“They established this place with the intention to maintain a small scale business that would leave a light footprint on the land,” Jenna said.
“The legacy of the founders sustains us and carries us through,” she commented. “We are lucky to be able to live and work in a world class national park and we try to be good stewards of the national park land.”
Camp Denali has been featured in the PBS program “Great Lodges of the National Parks.”
Jenna and her family choose to support KUAC because they appreciate being well informed by its high quality news programming. “Public radio is of tremendous value living in a rural area and living in Alaska,” she said. “KUAC is our preferred public radio station in the state.”
