KUAC public radio’s digital streaming service has been updated and expanded! KUAC FM — our traditional, trustworthy and popular FM programming – continues to fulfill our mission to connect Alaska to the world, and the world to Alaska.
KUAC is the number one most-listened to FM station in Interior Alaska, and is the flagship of our FM programming, featuring a mix of well-loved, locally produced musical programs including Funk Roots, The Oldies Show, Acoustic Accents and ‘Round Midnight, as well as popular programs from NPR, PRI, APRN and other public radio program distributors.
KUAC2 is a new digital radio channel broadcasting culturally rich content. Like our flagship programming on KUAC FM, KUAC2 serves a diverse audience with the same mission, vision and values. KUAC2 expands your world of listening with intriguing and satisfying programming that will stir the imagination, featuring energetic and entertaining news and talk, and an eclectic blend of emerging and heritage blues, rock, world, folk, and Americana.
KUAC and KUAC2 can also be heard on KUAC TV Channels 9.5 and 9.6 respectively, over the air in the Interior.
Red Green bestowed the awards in person at the 16th annual Red Green Regatta, with over 500 participants on the Chena River this year making for one of the liveliest turnouts ever! Grand Prize winners in vessel #8 Jai-Alai Unlikely, captained by Matt Irinaga and his crew of mini-Reds who dutifully recited “The Man’s Prayer,” took home the duct tape crown as well as a Thule rooftop cargo carrier donated by Paddler’s Cove Outfitters. Other prizes were sponsored by Compeau’s, which also provided an escort Red Green out of Pioneer Park.
Effective July 1, 2012, the public television signal to Juneau and Bethel will begin originating from KAKM in Anchorage. The AlaskaOne consortium will be discontinued, but KUAC TV in Fairbanks will continue to broadcast the same quality programming and schedule to viewers in the Interior, with the name changing back to KUAC TV. KUAC TV’s mission of the past 40 years – to create television programming that is thought-provoking, trustworthy and life-changing – remains the same. KUAC will continue to provide all four digital channels, KUAC TV, WORLD, Create, and UATV.
Robert John, lucky winner of the FM Fall Fundraiser Car Talk Car Wash, got the royal treatment as KUAC Community Advisory member and volunteer Sue Sprinkle (of Car Talk Princess fame) sported rubber gloves, boots and sparkling tiaras to wash his car. The other Princess, Julie Estey, was out of town, but a lady-in-waiting filled in, wielding a magic water-wand.
Handmaid Gretchen Gordon, assistant GM at KUAC, lent a hand – and style – to the occasion. Robert John’s custom car wash was the special prize during our FM Fall Fundraiser for the person who made the largest gift during the Princess’ pledge program, Car Talk. Congratulations, Robert! Enjoy those gleaming wheels!
