FM Fall FundraiserDuring this year’s fundraiser we focused on the theme of Sourdough, not only of Sourdough status and celebrating our years spent in Alaska (51 for KUAC!) but also in the sustaining and enriching qualities Sourdough has, just like public radio. During the nine days of sustaining fundraising to support Interior Alaska’s public radio, we were beyond enriched by the generosity and enthusiasm that our supporters donated. The grand total added up to an amazing amount of $382,726 – exceeding our goal by over $52,000 and topping last year’s record by more than $20, 000.

FM Fall FundraiserIf we could thank every single donor, corporate supporter, community organization, individual volunteer, and staff member who made this such a success, the list would go on and on. Over 1800 gifts were made to KUAC between October 12-20, including 266 new donors, 84 Art Buswell Society gifts and an average pledge of $198.

2013wrap3Our biggest fundraising hour was, once again, the Alaska Live hour thanks to the now epic “challenge” put forth by Jack Wilbur, president of Design Alaska and joined this year by Meg Nordale, vice-president of GHEMM Company. With the combined efforts of Jack and Meg, KUAC received 178 total pledges, with 174 at the challenge grant level of $125 or more for a total of $40,735. For each gift of $125 or more, Design Alaska and GHEMM Company kicked in an additional $125, which brought the grand total to $62,485 in support of Alaska Live and KUAC. Thank you, Jack and Meg and your phone bank team, and thanks to our talented musicians, Will Putnam & Friends.

FM Fall FundraiserOther successful “challenges” which helped donors to leverage their gifts and inspired others to give: Jana Varati and Sue Steinacher in Nome sponsored “Translator Community” and new Nome donor challenges; Ann Millard, from Eagle, put out a call to all Libras; and Nicole Stewart from Sourdough Fuel rallied a large number of Sourdough customers. More challenges sprang up throughout the week from Amy Nash for Moose Mountain Ski Patrol, Lisa Villano for Graduate Students, Ian Wright & Jennifer Reed for VW Bus Lovers, Baring Family for School Nurses or U-Park Elementary Staff, David Hughes for Public Service Employees at City Hall and many more added even more community spirit.

FM Fall FundraiserA good number of individuals advanced challenges, including Chris Miller, Brian Rogers & Sherry Modrow, Rich Seifert, and Andy Harrington. Two new ABS Challenges were issued and met! Art Buswell Society donors are those who become sustainable donors at the $1,000 a year level, in honor of one of KUAC’s legends. Other creative challenges included Tom George with the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Joy Morrison’s New UAF Faculty & Donors, Car Talk Princesses Car Wash, Tima Priess and Paul Beals’ Knitters & Woodworkers, , Doug Schrage’s Fire Truck Wash, and Deb Lawton’s Adjective Describing KUAC. Plus the annual tradition of Grace Schaible’s traditional Opera challenge added a generous $8,000 match because we met all of our goals during Opera on the last Sunday.

FM Fall FundraiserMultiple corporate partners offered challenges that were successfully met, including Dr. Daniel Johnson, First National Bank Alaska, Crisenberry Engineering, Sourdough Fuel & Food Marts, Water Wagon, Pogo Mine & Kinross Fort Knox, ABR Inc, Metropolitan Garage, Turning Point Counseling, Co-Op Market, Fairbanks Physical Therapy, Street Sounds, and Wendell Street Psychiatric Services, to name a few.
