Budget Cuts affect KUAC Programming: Reminder

Budget Cuts affect KUAC Programming: ReminderLike other state agencies and university departments, KUAC is to make cuts in FY16 due to reduced revenue. Following are the currently known funding reductions:

– A more than $56,000 reduction in direct state funding due to cuts to public broadcasting. That amounts to about 23 percent of direct state funding to the station.

– A reduction of about $134,000 in university funding to KUAC, due to reductions in state funding to the university.

Those reductions leave KUAC starting the next fiscal year with a deficit of more than $190,000. When combined with last year’s reduction of $170,000, that’s a total of more than $360,000 in revenue reductions over the course of two fiscal years.

KUAC investigated many options and made several budget adjustments and reductions following the FY15 budget cuts. Despite increases in our fundraising revenue, KUAC is again faced with making tough decisions with regard to operations and staffing so that it can minimize the impact to viewers and listeners. Effective July 1, 2015, KUAC will terminate its APRN membership and no longer air APRN (Alaska Public Radio Network) programming.
