KUAC celebrated the hard work and dedication of its volunteers on Monday, April 21st at our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party. We are thankful every day for our dedicated volunteers, and are thrilled for this opportunity to give back to our volunteers and show our appreciation. We Scooped Into Spring at this festive event giving volunteers a chance to mingle with staff, family and friends - and eat ice cream! Each year at this event the Spirit of KUAC Award is presented to a volunteer who stands out through his/her exceptional service to KUAC. Open nominations are accepted for 30 days and then forwarded for selection to a committee of community members. The 2008 Spirit of KUAC Award recipient is Lisa Sporleder.

Comments from Lisa Sporleder nominators:
Lisa dedicates her time volunteering at various KUAC events and fundraisers even though she is exhausted from working her regular job often six days per week. She has demonstrated flexibility during multiple FM Fall Fundraisers. She not only worked numerous shifts answering phones and taking pledges, but she also made herself available on an "on call" basis - ready for action within an hour. Soon enough we counted on Lisa to be the shift supervisor, updating and tallying totals and training other volunteers. When we needed someone last minute to pitch on air - she was right there and did an extraordinary job! Lisa thrives in the team environment where she is able to lend a hand on behalf of the KUAC mission.

Lisa was one of the volunteers that gave her time during several AlaskaOne poster signing events and manned one of the busier stations with great attitude and aptitude. She is committed to getting the job done. She takes responsibility for her own actions while her adaptability is amazing! She fears nothing! Lisa is one of KUAC’s most enthusiastic cheerleaders - always willing to lend a hand, and always with a smile.
